My name is Kevin Pogacar, I am 26 years old and have picked up triathlon racing over the past two years. I figured that since I have always been involved in sport, triathlon would be a nice fit for me. I was slowly increasing my distances to half-iron, with my goal eventually finishing a full and ultimately someday qualifying for Kona.
Last year I started training more seriously and ended up signing up for nationals in Ottawa on a whim as I was feeling strong come July. They cancelled the swim unfortunately but I managed to finish second in my age group in my first Olympic duathlon!
This means I've qualified for Age Group World Championships in Rotterdam this year in September, so I've completely changed my focus from increasing my endurance, to working on speed and power. I have changed up my schedule to revolve solely around the Olympic distance for this year with hopes of really improving my speed in all 3 disciplines. I plan on racing all of the Multisport Olympic distance races this summer with a couple sprints to keep me sharp for Worlds. It would be nice if I can crack some overall podiums this year in Ontario going into my big race in September.
I have also managed to get involved with and have become a brand ambassador for a few local companies who are supporting me leading up to Worlds (Clif, Skratch Labs, Nimblewear, Blade Carbon Wheels and Triangle Phyisiotherapy). Along with training and organizing with sponsors, I just recently got married in February so this year has already been pretty crazy and hopefully all will pan out in a few months come race season.
I will train with TTC in the summer during the west end swims and will come out for some High Park Thursday evening interval sessions as they were very helpful and nice to train with partners last summer.
