Starting Sat. April 20 - 5 Week TTC Bike Skills Series 

Looking for ways to improve your bike skills this summer? 

Learn from a National Champion -  Andrew Randell, a former pro on Steve Bauer’s Team SpiderTech, will work to improve your confidence and ability on the bike by teaching you the fundamentals while enjoying some of the best riding spots around the GTA. 

Together, we will tackle essentials skills such as safe group riding, paceline and echelon riding, climbing, descending, and cornering.

Details:
  • 5 clinics that will motivate you and support your development as a rider, no matter your ability, or whether you are a triathlete or a roady. 
  • Each clinic will build on the last and will provide you with a safe (and fun) riding environment, covering key essentials to improve your bike skills by incorporating a mix of both riding and discussion.

$199 through April 1, 2013 (that’s just ~$20 per hour of premium cycling instruction!).

Time: 
Session 1: INDOOR LECTURE!!

Location: Enduro Sport- 94 Laird Dr.  Toronto, ON M4G 3V2.
8:00 am - approximately 9:30 am at
Enduro Sport (90 minutes).

Session 2-5: RIDING 8:00 am – approximately 10:00 am (120 minutes)
(please be prepared to arrive at least 15 minutes early so the group can leave on time)

#1  Saturday, April 20th, 2013:
Enduro Sport 94 Laird Dr.  Toronto, ON M4G 3V2.
Our first session will commence with an indoor workshop that will set the stage for the remainder of the Series. Topics will cover riding in a group, reviewing videos of peloton riding, discussing the responsibilities of each of the rider and how the group should move, will provide an overview of paceline and echelon riding, and application of learned skills to triathlon.

#2 Saturday, April 27th, 2013:

Our second session will have the group  working on drills and paceline riding.

#3 Saturday, May 11th, 2013:
King City.
Session 3 will ramp things up a bit with the group tackling shorter hills around King City, about 40km north of downtown.
We will park at the Holy Name Catholic School to the east of HWY 400 on King Rd. Then head north to get into the hills on our bikes.

#4 Saturday, June 1st, 2013:

CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER. We will run clinic #4 on June 8th and reschedule clinic 5 to a date TBD.

Session 4 will build upon the paceline and short hill sessions by introducing the group to longer hills. 
Parking will be in the municipal lot across from the Domestique Cafe - a great cycling hang-out. In the directions you can disregard the last few turns as it is taking you around the block to accommodate a no-left turn sign onto Miller's Lane that applies from Mon-Fri. 

#5 Saturday, June 8th, 2013

Our last session will focus on cornering, specifically, how to corner both efficiently and safely, and how to prevent some of the biggest mistakes when trying to corner in a race or when in a group.
What’s included?
  • A unique opportunity to be taught by a seasoned professional that has won races both nationally and internationally at the highest level of the sport.
  • A safe and motivating environment for riders of all abilities to increase their development, regardless if you are a triathlete or a ‘roady’.
  • The opportunity to practice with a group of like-minded individuals and explore some of the GTA’s best riding spots.
  • Discussions and ‘takeaways’ for the group from each session.
  • Build a core network of TTC friends to ride and train with throughout the summer.
  • Tri Bikes: Tri-bikes are welcome, however riding will be done outside of the aerobars.

Weather: In the event of rain, the group will meet the same time the following weekend or during a time that best works for the majority of the group.

About Andrew:
Born in South Africa, Andrew moved to Toronto when he was a child and started cycling in 1988, after being inspired watching none other than Steve Bauer riding to fourth place overall at the Tour de France.

Andrew commenced racing full time in 1995 and was a professional cyclist for 12 years, competing and winning races internationally at the highest levels of the sport. In 2002, he was the Canadian National Champion, and has stood on the National's podium five other times during his career.

When competing locally, Andrew dominated racing. He is well known for lapping the field at the 2009 Toronto Crit and winning multiple Ontario Championships. Canadian cycling coaches with this breadth of knowledge and experience are rare.

Recently retired from professional riding, Andrew will incorporate his expertise and experience into developing athletes. He is well respected and is currently coaching racing teams and individual athletes (both male and female) including:
• Management/rider development -/Norco Bicycles (2013)
• Marsh Cooper, professional with Kelly Benefit Strategies-Optum Health Pro Cycling
• Jamie Riggs, U23 Silver Medalist 2011 Canadian National Road Championship

Career Highlights:
• Nine professional UCI Wins in four countries
• Canadian Champion, Road, 2001
• 8 - Overall GC, UCI 2.1 Tour of Missouri, USA, 2007
• Fun fact - On team SpiderTech, only Svein Tuft has won more UCI race leader's jerseys than Andrew
