7. I’m new to triathlon. Is the club newbie friendly?
The TTC has members at every level of the sport, from never “tri’d” to veteran racers; from age group recreational athletes to competitive pros, and for every distance of the sport, from try-a-tri (super sprint) to Ironman and ultra distances. We welcome every type and ability of athlete, whether you’re competitive or just want to try it and tick it off your bucket list (but we can almost guarantee that you’ll get hooked once you try it).
8. Is club membership geared toward seriously competitive athletes?
The TTC reflects the diversity of everyone who participates in the sport. Everyone is friendly, welcoming and competition is relegated to race days, not socializing or celebrating each other’s achievements. There is a great sense of camaraderie among TTCers, especially when we see our branded kits out on the race course! We will cheer you on and help keep you motivated, whether you’re a first timer or a seasoned racer.
9. How do I get involved with the community aspect of the club?
The Toronto Triathlon Club offers many ways for you to connect with other members and engage with the triathlon community. Here are some of the best ways to get involved:
- Weekly Newsletters: We send out newsletters every week to share details about regular training events, such as swim practices, virtual group rides, and track runs. The newsletters also highlight special events, like camps and clinics, and provide announcements about races or important club news.
- Facebook Group: Our Facebook social hub allows members to share photos, ask questions, and interact with one another. It’s a great place to connect with fellow club members.
- Discord Channel: The most effective platform for building community is our club's Discord channel. Discord is a communication app that supports voice, video, and text, making it easy for members to:
- Organize group training sessions
- Share bike and running routes
- Find open water swim buddies
- Arrange carpools for races
- List gear for sale
- Participate in our monthly swim, bike, and run challenges
- Get to know one another!
We encourage all members to engage with each other on Discord, as it provides excellent opportunities to connect both virtually and in person. By participating in these events and platforms, you’ll quickly become part of the Toronto Triathlon Club community!
4. Volunteer!!!
The club runs on volunteer power and passion from people who care about the sport and its athletes. We can always use volunteers to cheer at races and club events, join club committees to help develop and run events, and contribute to the positive vibes that the triathlon community is famous for. Volunteering allows you to meet others in the sport and participate in ways that provide value to the club and its members; it's really win-win!
